I worked with the women from PEO Chapter H WI to create a website for their chapter.
P.E.O. is a philanthropic organization where women:
CELEBRATE the advancement of women,
EDUCATE women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans, and stewardship of Cottey College,
MOTIVATE women to achieve their highest aspirations.
I created a questionnaire and gave it to clients to fill out. This gave me information that spoke to the type of site they wanted.
I also met with the representatives and discussed the answers so that I could fully understand their goals.
Three personas of people that might be interested in using the website were created.
After meeting with the clients and getting additional information (they put together documents for the content of the site) I created a site map.
After gathering information I wrote a simple creative brief and submitted it to the client.
Please Note: Due to confidentiality, only a link to the prototype is shown.
USER AUDITS
Two User Audits were conducted on the site.
The first was with a person that fell in the same demographic as the website. She found it easy to use. She got a little confused by the Resources page and thought she needed to keep going back to it to reach the secondary pages. Overall, she found the website to be pleasant and easy to use.
The second audit was conducted by someone in a younger demographic with tech savvy and design knowledge. She pointed out that the buttons that linked to documents should say “Open” rather than “Download.” She also was not a fan of the filter on the daisies on the home banner because it didn’t feel fresh. She liked the fonts though. She found the site extremely easy to navigate and really only had questions about content. She suggested to add scroll to top buttons on a couple of the longer pages.
Overall, the audits helped me understand the user experience from a different perspective. There were things I hadn’t noticed at all that needed attention. Most of the key goals of the project seemed to be met however.
ACCESSIBILITY AUDIT
Using the WAVE app I conducted an accessibility audit and passed with resounding success. There were no errors at all and the few alerts there were were more about text being underlined. Because accessibility was the primary goal of the site, and thereby being at the forefront when I was designing the end result was fairly easy to predict.
